FAQ: Midgard Campaign Setting: Dark Roads & Deep Magic
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

How do I get all three books? I play both systems.

To get the Midgard Campaign book plus BOTH the Heroes Handbook for 5th Edition and the Player’s Guide for Pathfinder, you choose the combo package you like (PF or 5E), and then add the player book for the other system as an add-on ($40 for print + PDF).

Note that you can add the second rules set either in your pledge now, or wait and add it during the BackerKit survey. Adding now increases the funding total for the campaign, unlocking more goals, while doing it during BackerKit spreads the cost over a 6-month time span.

Is there a Fantasy Grounds or Hero Lab add-on available?

Our experience with the last such digital add-ons was that it’s just too confusing to include a third and fourth format, and that doing so when another company is providing the digital files/licenses is a bit of an accounting nightmare. Ok, a CR 23 accounting nightmare.

So, YES, we will work with Smiteworks for a Fantasy Grounds release and with Lone Wolf for a Hero Lab release of the Heroes Handbook and Player’s Guide. They’ll be separate items, though, to allow us to focus on delivering the core books. We hope to offer a discount on these files to project backers.

Is the Heroes Handbook the same thing as the Midgard Heroes series?

Partly! The Heroes booklets include some races that are in the Heroes Handbook, but the HH includes a lot more. It’s a hardcover that also includes a dozen new divine domains for 5E, new spells from Deep Magic, a dozen new martial traditions, Midgard-specific Backgrounds, new Arcane Traditions, and new weapons and gear. A bigger hardcover with more options all around, to fully support your 5th Edition character.

What's the difference between the Heroes Handbook and the Player's Guide?

The Midgard Heroes Handbook is races, spells, divine domains, backgrounds, new weapons, and archetypes for 5th Edition players.

The Midgard Player’s Guide is races, spells, domains, equipment, weapons, and archetypes/mysterise/inquisitions for Pathfinder Roleplaying Game players.

Chances are, you’ll probably just want one or the other (but if you want both, that’s also excellent–just add one as an add-on during the survey stage).

I want to add on an extra book, or get other Kobold Press titles as add-ons. How do I do that? And what is available?

If you want to add an extra print book or PDF from the project, you can either 1) increase your pledge now (to help meet stretch goals, and simplify your rewards) or 2) add the following items during the BackerKit survey stage, when we ask for everyone shipping address and information for downloads (which means the costs are spread out a bit too).

AVAILABLE ITEMS: All items from the project itself are available as add-ons EXCEPT the special edition and art prints. So you can add the Midgard Campaign Setting in print or PDF, Heroes Handbook for 5th Edition, Player’s Guide for Pathfinder RPG, and the digital map.

EXTRA ITEMS: In addition, we’ve promised these items to include in the BackerKit stage, though some are sure to require additional postage (especially heavy hardcovers like Tome of Beasts ):

Midgard 4-panel horizontal DM’s Screen, $20 (actually less, on Backerkit for just $15.99) Eldritch Lairs for 5th Edition, print $25 to $30, PDF $10 to 15 Grimalkin for 5th Edition $20 print + PDF, $10 PDF only Tome of Beasts for 5th Edition print, $50 +shipping, PDF $25, bundle of both $55+ shipping Demon Cults & Secret Societies for 5th Edition, print $40 + shipping, PDF $20, bundle of both $45 (NOT AVAILABLE: Insufficient stock)

Midgard 4-panel horizontal GM Screen, $20 Eldritch Lairs for Pathfinder RPG, print $25 to $30, PDF $10 to 15 Demon Cults & Secret Societies for Pathfinder, print $40 + shipping, PDF $20, bundle of both $45 Grimalkin for Pathfinder $20 print + PDF, $10 PDF only

Tell me more about shipping to the EU, please.

Sure, this is a perennial tough spot for us. The shipping costs shown are the actual costs from the US to the EU (and elsewhere). They’re what we have to reckon with as things stands.

Note, however, that if we wind up with a large number of European pledges, we’ll go partner up our shipping partner from the Tome of Beasts and attempt an EU-friendly shipping solution. That was a considerable logistics challenge for us last time, and it’s harder with a 3 book projects than with 2. It’s on our minds, though, as a possible way to improve things for European backers.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
